Since 2018 Dylan Lee has been dedicated to full-time instrument repair, building on a passion ignited at the age of 15. He most recently was the head guitar tech at RareBirds Music in Chicago where he continued to hone his skillset working on many notable pieces. He helped along the way to build the store up to be a go-to spot for the best vintage gear in Chicago. Since then, he has worked even more extensively with guitars and a wide variety of other stringed instruments under his own business. His background as a professional musician, combined with skills in both metal and woodworking, provides him with a unique perspective and a comprehensive understanding of instrument craftsmanship. He benefits from a great desire to learn and a fascination with music and how it is made from the ground up.
Transitioning to Full-Time Entrepreneur
Driven by a recognition of the lack of consistent experience in the industry, Dylan transitioned from part-time repairs to establishing Lee Guitars Co. as a full-time venture in Chicago, IL, in 2018. This decision was motivated by a desire to offer specialized, high-quality care for stringed instruments, with personalized attention that many big box stores struggle to offer. Fast forward to 2023, when Dylan decided to relocate the business to the Washington D.C. area, embarking on a new journey where he has quickly become the go-to luthier for many local and passing-through artists. He deeply enjoys seeing customers who have a renewed love for their instrument and making their ideas come to life.
